Cheras has been casting aluminium for over 70 years. We design tooling, cast on permanent moulds and machine to finished dimensions from one facility at Eagle Farm, Brisbane.

Three Operations, One Integrated Facility

Casting, machining and remelt in one building

Most component work moves between suppliers. A foundry casts the part, a machine shop finishes it, and someone else supplies the metal. Every handover is a point where responsibility becomes unclear.

Cheras runs all three under one roof with Gravity Die-Casting, CNC Machining and Aluminium Ingot production sit in the same building. When a casting needs more machining stock in one area, the two departments sort it out between themselves. When a part fails inspection, there is one company to talk to.

That is what customers get from us. Tooling, casting, machining and material, with one point of accountability.

Part of the G.James Group

Cheras Industries began casting aluminium in Brisbane in 1955 and joined the G.James Group in 1997.

G.James is one of Australia’s largest privately owned glass and aluminium companies, with extrusion, fabrication and glass operations across the country. That connection is practical. Offcuts, extrusion billet ends, machining swarf and process scrap come back to our Eagle Farm remelt facility, are sorted, melted and alloyed to specification, and are cast into ingot. Some of that ingot feeds our own castings, and the rest is sold to other manufacturers.

The Facility

Eagle Farm holds the foundry, the machine shop and the remelt operation.

Casting runs on permanent moulds up to 800 × 600 × 400mm. Machining runs on horizontal and vertical machining centres and CNC lathes, to tolerances of ±0.1mm. Ingot is produced in EA401, DA401, AA601 and CA401, along with custom blends.

Tooling is designed and made for each part, and it belongs to the customer once it is paid for.

Who we work with

Our customers are design engineers, procurement teams and manufacturers who need a part made properly, in volumes that suit an Australian foundry.

We cast for automotive, mining, agriculture, industrial equipment, electrical housings, infrastructure, OEM manufacturing and marine. Some customers come with a finished drawing. Others come with a photograph of a part that has been failing for years. Both are a reasonable place to start.
